Black&White Phone™
Privacy policy

This policy covers the Android app published by True Blue Interactive.

Black&White Phone™ stores settings and processes app usage/focus rules on your device. It has no account, advertising or remote analytics. When no visible app matches an Apps search query, it sends that query to Google for suggestions using Internet access. The publisher does not receive your queries, app usage, app selections or focus activity from the app.

Information processed on your device

The app reads installed launchable-app names and identifiers to show your app list and open chosen apps. It stores favorites and their order, hidden launcher identities, appearance, four Home gesture mappings, the Focus switch actions, selected blocked apps, control position and Home visibility, the voice-search swipe preference, consent choices and focus rules locally. Hiding an app does not delete its favorite or rules; unhiding can restore the saved favorite.

If you select Do Not Disturb for Focus and grant policy access, Focus can apply this app's Android priority mode. Turning Focus off releases only the native control it acquired; other active modes may keep Do Not Disturb on. Allowed exceptions are managed in native Android settings. We do not read notifications, contacts or call logs, or store a custom caller allowlist. Show on Home screen changes only visibility. Normal mode changes leave volume sliders unchanged. An older installation may retain a saved volume-restoration snapshot until restored or explicitly forgotten. Grayscale activation has been removed; retained legacy ownership is used only to release the exact colors mode acquired by an earlier build.

Phone/Camera gestures resolve installed app destinations; the clock requests native Alarms through the normal limit/pause checks. These actions do not automatically place calls, capture photos or create alarms. Notification gestures ask Android to open its panel using the connected Accessibility service or an available status-bar route. They do not read notification contents or silently enable limit enforcement or feed inspection. Actions after another app opens are handled by that app.

If you grant Usage access, Android supplies app-usage records, including app/Activity identifiers, timestamps and foreground totals. The app processes these in memory for daily limits, search recommendations and the Detox graph. The graph uses Android's existing closed weekly periods. The app does not keep a separate usage-history database, tracked-app selection or pause counters. Legacy app-owned usage history is deleted on refresh. Android controls its own records and retention.

If you enable limit enforcement after its in-app disclosure, the Accessibility service uses foreground app/window identifiers to enforce chosen daily limits and schedules, and selected-app blocks while Focus is on, returning Home with an explanation. Daily limits and schedules apply independently of Focus. This consent alone does not authorize screen-control inspection.

Block infinite feeds has a separate disclosure and consent. Only its enabled flag together with current consent version 2 permits inspection of app, Activity, window and visible control identifiers. Exact rules recognize YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Snapchat Spotlight viewers and a limited signature in the global TikTok app. TikTok returns Home directly; the other recognized viewers use Android Back with Home as fallback. Other feeds and compatibility across app versions or locales are not promised. Regional TikTok versions, Lite clients, cloned apps and browser feeds are not covered. Android metadata declares the required content-retrieval capability, but screen nodes are not retrieved until that separate consent and setting are present. This inspection does not read or store screen text, labels, messages, typed text, screenshots, videos or notification contents. Saved version-1 consent and other preferences remain intact, but inspection waits for renewed version-2 consent without automatic enablement. Existing limit-enforcement consent never enables feed inspection. You can turn these features off, revoke Accessibility access or uninstall the app.

Black & white everything opens Android's native color-correction settings; this app does not silently change global colors or track their state. The separate Lock screen action changes the lock-screen wallpaper to a generated black image only after you choose Apply. It does not read or save the previous wallpaper or access personal photos, and cannot promise to restore the previous image. Android controls the lock-screen clock, widgets and other system styling.

Installed-app lists, app selections, usage records and focus rules are not uploaded. Search query transmission to Google is described below; no advertising or analytics reporting is added. The Android and Google Play services on your device operate under their own policies; the app's local processing does not describe all processing performed by your device's operating system.

Storage and your choices

App settings use private storage. A prior valid settings snapshot is retained for corruption recovery; damaged local settings may also be retained for recovery. Usage records queried from Android are not persisted as an app-owned history. Android backup and device-transfer backup are disabled for this app's data.

You can change rules and gesture mappings, restore hidden apps, turn Focus off, edit/disable limits and schedules, turn off feed blocking, and revoke Usage, Accessibility or Do Not Disturb access in Android settings. A Home direction can be set to None. There is no app-owned usage history to clear; Android manages its own usage records. Leaving or backgrounding a pending app opening cancels the handoff without changing its saved pause. Android's Clear storage action or uninstall removes local app data; Android separately manages DND, color settings and any wallpaper already applied.

Optional external actions

Typing filters visible installed apps locally. Once the catalog is ready, an active focused Apps drawer with no visible matches sends a trimmed 2–200-character query and device language to Google over HTTPS after 300ms without another query change. Up to six unique suggestions appear in plain rows. Suggestions are held in memory without search history, app cookie storage or API keys. Requests attach no app list, usage records or focus settings. Google receives the query and normal connection information and processes them under its own policies. Requests are suppressed while recognition or a queued speech action is active. A failed request leaves manual input and keyboard Search available. The app has Internet permission for this feature.

Choosing a suggestion or pressing keyboard Search opens Google, first through the installed Google search activity and otherwise through a fixed Google search URL in an explicitly selected browser, without a provider chooser. The query is passed to that receiving app; Google and the browser handle the subsequent search under their policies. The suggestion endpoint is unofficial and can stop being available; Google describes the unsupported autocomplete API.

Voice search uses Android’s SpeechRecognizer service inline when you tap the microphone, or once per upward Apps opening if you enable Voice search on swipe up (off by default). First use requests Android microphone permission. Android’s selected speech provider captures/processes audio and may send it to remote servers under its own policies; recognition is not promised to be offline. The launcher saves no audio and attaches no app selections or usage records. Internet permission separately supports Google suggestions. The microphone shows Listening and Processing speech, and tapping Cancel voice search stops the session. Typing, leaving, focus loss, backgrounding or disposal also cancels it and rejects late results. Interim recognized words can update the visible query while listening but do not launch apps or search Google; blank updates are ignored and some providers omit interim results. Only final recognized text triggers actions: a unique exact visible app name opens that app, no visible matches opens Google and partial/duplicate matches remain for selection. Cancellation keeps the visible draft without starting an action; you can revoke microphone access in Android settings.

Settings → More → Request a feature / report a bug opens an editable email draft to contact@trueblueinteractive.com. The app attaches no usage records, app selections or other personal app data. Your chosen email app handles the draft, and you decide whether to send it; the publisher receives only what you choose to send. Recommend to a friend is disabled until a public Google Play listing exists. This build creates no recommendation message or sharing action.

Donate to mental health names GoodShift and opens its Dutch mental-health bundle at GoodShift’s mental-health bundle in an external browser. The bundle supports MIND (Netherlands), De Luisterlijn and 113 Fonds. GoodShift and its payment providers handle any donation under their own policies; the launcher does not take payment or receive payment details. Leave a review uses Google's Play Review SDK; Google Play handles any rating or review under its own policies. Eligibility and quotas can prevent a prompt, and errors fall back to the store listing. The launcher does not automatically submit a review or infer that one was posted. These support/review actions do not attach search queries, usage records or app selections. Settings → More → Uninstall opens Android's confirmation for this app, falling back to app details if unsupported, without confirming removal.

Purchases

The planned distribution model is a paid download through Google Play. The app is currently in development and has no published store listing. Google processes the purchase through your store account. The app does not request or receive your card details and contains no subscription checkout.
